The Bikini Bandits are a parody of famous female action teams like Charlie's Angels. They are a band of bikini-clad, gun-toting super vixens, who star in internet film shorts and their own feature length movies. The Bandits are often pursued by local law enforcement and a cast of other stereotypical characters in their fight against the evil G-Mart Corporation. The Bikini Bandits style of humor is often sexually crass and contains many double entendres and scenes of sex and violence. Maynard James Keenan of the bands Tool and A Perfect Circle is a noteworthy fan, and has starred in The Bikini Bandit Experience (2002) and The Bikini Bandits Save Christmas (2004). They also starred in the A Perfect Circle video for The Outsider. These movies and internet shorts are an obvious homage to exploitation films of the 1970's.

History

The Bikini Bandits initially found success via the internet, where they became one of the most downloaded clips in the history of AtomFilms, a website specializing in independent short films. The studio later went on to bankroll several sequels, helmed by writer/director Steven Grasse. Promotional materials make the proud claim that "all our actresses are real strippers". The bandits are dancers at Delilah's Den, a business that Grasse lists as a client in his other life, as founder of the Gyro Worldwide ad agency. Steven and brother Peter Grasse (who acts in the films) decided they wanted to branch out from advertising into music videos and films. They wanted their films to reflect their favorite subjects ""bikinis, girls, and boobs". So they recruited actresses from Delilah's, and began filming Bikini Bandits.

After submitting their quickie thrillers to half a dozen Webcasters, a mini-bidding war broke out. Eventually they selected AtomFilms, which promoted Bikini Bandits on MTV, VH1 and Comedy Central. Many have described the series as a mixture of Russ Meyer and Quentin Tarantino.

Actresses

Perhaps the most well known of the Bikini Bandits cast, is lead bandit Heather Victoria Ray. In typical Bikini Bandit fashion, Heather was quoted as saying the following during an interview, when asked what she was doing before she joined the bandits cast, "They found me in a deep six-foot hole with a flashlight and some lotion. I was listening to the Pixies 'Where is My Mind' on repeat, they thought I needed a change, so they gave me a gun and a car. I'm so thankful for their guidance". Other Media

In 2004, Gyro Worldwide commissioned a Bikini Bandits comic book graphic novel with writer Ryan Scott Ottney (The Legend of Isis, Scryptic Studios), and artist Andie Tong (Masters of the Universe). The graphic novel has not been published, to date, but slowly remains in development according to those close to the project.
